Virtual Journal!

Special Virtual Issue of our journal English for the conference!

To coincide with the English: Shared Futures conference this summer we are delighted to launch this virtual issue in which we have brought together articles that explore some of the key topics of the conference. The conference aims ‘to celebrate the discipline’s intellectual strength, diversity and creativity and to explore its futures in the nations of the UK and across the world’. Sessions on literature and social justice, language and female authority, literary biography, creative writing, teaching, and the role of English studies in society have inspired the selections here, which range from Shakespeare to recent 9/11 fiction.
Literatures are inevitably shaped by and shaping of the social and political environments out of which they emerge. As editors we embrace the commitment of the conference to celebrating the diversity of scholarship in English; and to recognizing the powerful role that we all can play as scholars, teachers, writers and readers in shaping our shared futures.
